Alcohol advertisements and promotions come in many forms 

There are many forms of alcohol advertising:

TV Radio
Magazines Newspapers
Alcohol sponsorship (TV, sports gear, events) Outdoor signage
Billboards Internet advertising
Flyers and catalogues Text messaging, emails, etc
Labels on products and posters, etc Public transport advertising (shelters, buses, etc)


Alcohol is also being promoted by schools in fundraising initiatives.

Legislation and alcohol advertising / promotions

In the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, there are two sections which are relevant (click on the links to read more):

  • Irresponsible Promotion of Alcohol (Section 237 of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act)
  • Single Area provisions for supermarkets/grocery stores which restrict the exposure of alcohol within these premises. (Sections 112-115 of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act)
